Full Time: England 2-1 Norway (AET). Argentina 3-1 Switzerland (AET). Both quarterfinals on July 11 needed extra time, and both were settled by second-half extra-time strikes -- completing the World Cup 2026 semifinal bracket. England now face Argentina on July 15 in Atlanta, joining France and Spain, who meet a day earlier in Arlington.
England 2-1 Norway (AET) -- Bellingham Does It Twice
Andreas Schjelderup put Norway ahead in the 36th minute at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, finishing a cross-shot to send Erling Haaland's side in front in their first-ever World Cup quarterfinal. Jude Bellingham dragged England level in first-half stoppage time (45+2'), taking a pass from Anthony Gordon inside the box and curling it into the bottom corner.
The game went to extra time, and Bellingham struck again just three minutes in: when Morgan Rogers' shot was spilled by Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, Bellingham reacted fastest to slot home the rebound. Norway thought they had a second-half winner ruled out for a Haaland foul in the build-up, and England survived a VAR review of their own before holding on. England advance to their first semifinal since 2018.
Argentina 3-1 Switzerland (AET) -- Alvarez and Martinez Break the Wall
At Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Alexis Mac Allister headed Argentina in front in the 10th minute from a Lionel Messi corner. Switzerland, playing in their first World Cup quarterfinal since 1954, responded through Dan Ndoye's curled finish in the 67th minute to level the tie -- before a VAR check saw Breel Embolo sent off for a second bookable offense in the 72nd, leaving Switzerland to see out the rest of the match with ten men.
The extra 30 minutes decided it. Julian Alvarez curled a stunning strike into the top corner in the 112th minute, and Lautaro Martinez added a third in the 121st to make it 3-1. It's Argentina's second extra-time win in three knockout matches this tournament, and it keeps Lionel Messi's bid for back-to-back titles alive.
